At this time of year with Spring just edging around the corner the idea of sneaking spring in a bit early is so very tempting. Nothing says spring like the colour yellow and forsythia branches are a great choice to bring the spring indoors early.
March is an ideal time to force these branches so head outdoors on a day that is above freezing and use this opportunity to prune some branches from your forsythia bush. Cut stems about 3 feet in length and bring them indoors. Place the stems in a bucket of warm water after recutting them and allow the branches to sit for four to five hours to drink in the water.
Bring out your vase with fresh tepid water and floral preservative and recut your stems arranging in the vase as you go. Place your branches in a sunny location with humidity to speed up the process. Generally branches should take about three to four days to begin the blooming process.
Enjoy your first signs of spring.
